Chad Geyer
Originally from Merced California, Chad moved to the bay area after college where he met his wife, Ali.
During a brief stint living in Las Vegas, Chad and Ali were looking for new activities and, on a whim, decided to buy mountain bikes and become riders. After a couple rides Ali decided it wasn't for her, but Chad was hooked and so his love of mountain biking began. When they moved back to Marin and Chad had access to endless trails, his love of biking grew.
When his oldest child Austin was two Chad excitedly bought him his first bike. He began coaching Austin over the years to be his riding buddy. Lucky for him, Austin enjoyed it as much as Chad and it became their thing. When Austin started high school and joined the Bike Dawgs, Chad wanted to find a way to contribute to the team and so he decided to get certified to coach. Chad really enjoys getting to know the riders and helping them fine tune their skills. He is excited for another season with the Bike Dawgs!!

Declan Murphy
My name Declan Murphy.
I’ve lived in San Rafael for 40 years. Everything I enjoy is outdoor and mountain related. Mountain climber, backpacker, skier, mountain biker. 10 years ago my wife was a ride leader for SR girls. She told me I should volunteer as well. I’ve been associated with the Bike Dawgs ever since. 4 years as a co coach and the rest as a ride leader. One of my sons was also on the team during the four years. I strongly believe it’s important for young adults today to connect with nature (and off their phones). Mountain biking is a great way to connect with their community and great for physical health. Ultimately my goal is to make mountain biking fun even when it’s hard. Go Dawgs.

Mark Ruder
Mark is the Team Director and Head Coach for the San Rafael Bike Dawgs 25/26 season. He is originally from London, England, which is famously devoid of mountains to ride in, but that didn't stop him getting his first mountain bike at the age of 14. He moved to California at the end of the 90s, and has called Marin home, with his wife Heather, for the last 22 years.
Mark started his adult two wheeled adventures on a road bike, and has completed a number of century rides, including the Death Ride in Alpine County. As a now converted road-to-mountain biker, you'll see him riding with his son Jack, a senior on the team, and as a coach he strives to ensure the kids on the team have fun, are competitive, and above all safe on the bike. He is jolly excited to get the season rolling.

Bruce Sadownick
Other than having a decent enough left foot to earn the left wing spot on his high school soccer team, Bruce was always more of a band kid growing up. Then in his twenties, he discovered the joys of competitive volleyball and skiing, and spent countless hours on New England's courts, sand, and mountain slopes (until his knees couldn't take it anymore). So, of course, he moved over to coaching youth sports!
Bruce moved to Marin in 2003, but didn't really start mountain biking until a buddy started taking him out to ride China Camp in 2015. He feels fortunate to have been able to share that love of riding Marin's trails with his son, Reed, a junior on the Bike DAWGS team.
Often seen spending his free time with something hanging around his neck (a guitar, camera, or BBQ apron), Bruce enjoys channelling his hobbies to support Bike DAWG's race weekends by scrambling eggs or capturing rider photographs out on the course.

Rich Soriano
The 2025-26 season is Rich’s 5th season on staff and it all started with a nudge from his neighbor, and current coach on staff, Declan Murphy. Rich lives in San Rafael with his wife Ashley and 6 year old 90lb black doodle— Remy!
Helping out at San Rafael High School has been the most meaningful volunteer-ship for Rich, as he’s grateful to be a small part of “the village” doing their best to help our young adults thrive in this world.
Rich is very passionate about mt biking because of the synergy of having an absolute blast and yet exercising enough to thoroughly enjoy the palette of good foods ranging from pasta to pastries. When not mountain biking Rich runs a sports medicine/training facility in Sausalito, skis during the winter months and works hard to keep a 50+year old body tuned to continue having fun on the mountains.
Lastly, Rich is originally from the Los Angeles region, specifically Sierra Madre. So if you hear him mumble about his LA teams like USC (alum), Dodgers or Lakers then please know he’s not concussed.
Although, he does root for the 49ers! (it’s complicated). All we care is that he’s all about the Dawgs!

Dan St. John
2025–26 will be Dan’s fourth season with the SR Dawgs and his eighth year coaching high school mountain biking in Marin. Born in Berkeley and raised in West Marin, Dan grew up riding the local hills long before mountain biking was officially a sport—pushing homemade, junkyard-built bikes up Mt. Vision in Inverness and racing them down for the sheer fun of it. Those early rides sparked a lifelong passion for being outdoors and building confidence through challenge.
After years of amateur racing, coaching youth sports, and serving as a ride leader for the Tam High team where his oldest son competed, Dan joined the Dawgs once his two boys headed off to college. Coaching with the Dawgs has given him the opportunity to keep sharing his love of riding and the life lessons the sport offers—resilience, teamwork, and finding joy in the process, not just the finish.
Dan’s coaching philosophy is shaped by his early experience with Marin County Search and Rescue and his time as a volunteer firefighter, grounding his approach in preparedness, safety, and respect for the trail. He encourages riders to support one another, embrace both the tough climbs and the fast descents, and appreciate what it means to grow as part of a team.
When he’s not riding with the Dawgs, Dan works as a consultant supporting Marin-based nonprofits and government agencies. He also spends as much time as possible outdoors with his two sons—now back in Marin—surfing, exploring trails, and staying fit enough to keep up with the Dawgs.

Wendy Todd
Wendy Todd tried out for tons of sports growing up—and didn’t make a single team. Then at 27, newly arrived in the Bay Area, she discovered her true sport: mountain biking. It was love at first ride up (and down!) Mount Tam. After racing in her 30s, Wendy now (in her 50s!) loves helping new riders catch the same thrill. She’s all about making sure every kid feels welcome, has fun, builds confidence, and rides strong and safe.
Fun facts: Wendy co-created two mountain bike documentaries with Jason (The Way Bobby Sees It and Singletrack Minds), runs her own consulting business, and loves to snack.

Jason Watkins
Raised in Mill Valley, Jason was fortunate to grow up on the trails of Mt. Tamalpais. After graduating from UC Davis, his passion for mountain biking evolved into cross country racing at local events, and ultimately to the creation of two documentaries: Singletrack Minds and The Way Bobby Sees It. This work deepened his connection to the cycling community and the sport's culture.
With an invite from his friend, Rich, he joined the Dawgs coaching staff in 2022. HIs focus as a coach is on teaching biking skills and instilling values that extend beyond the trail: fitness and outdoor activity, confidence and self-reliance, and making healthy choices. And, if athletes happen to win a trophy along the way, that is definitely worth celebrating. He looks forward to another fun season of getting out in the trees with you all--Go Dawgs!!

Stuart Watson
Stuart found bike racing through triathlon in college, but it wasn’t until getting into cyclocross while living in England that he realized cycling didn’t have to come with knee-high socks and nostril expanders. Since then, he’s become an accomplished time trialist and road racer.
He lives in San Rafael with his wife and two young sons, both regulars on the local trails—one on a pedal bike and the other on a Strider. These days, Stuart spends more time on gravel and mountain rides than at the start line. As a coach, he aims to pass on a love of bike racing and the pride that comes from learning to push your limits, work hard, and see yourself get better.. Go Dawgs

Tim Pilla
Growing up in the Midwest with a love for building things and being outside, Tim split time between sports, construction sites, open fields, and whatever trail, lake, or creek he could find. That hands-on upbringing eventually led him to architecture, where he could blend craft, design, and deep respect for the natural world. Stumbling upon single-track trails in his backyard on SF Twin Peaks, Tim picked up a bike and started romping which inspired him to compete in a triathlon before moving with his family to San Rafael. When his son Torin joined the BikeDawgs in 2021 Tim immediately took to helping coach as much as he could fit in—quickly discovering his love for the sport, the community, and the challenge. Now, he keeps coaching for the riders, their energy, the trail, the dust, and the laughter. When he’s not sketching ideas or riding with the team, you’ll probably find him playing soccer, softball, chasing new climbs, open water, or running as he pushes to be a better triathlete—and to stay connected to the landscapes that keep him inspired.

Greg Martinez
When I’m not working I enjoy being outdoors, in the ocean or in the woods… and hanging with my grown-up, adult daughters.
